What Does It Mean To Delight In The Lord?

To delight in the Lord means to find great pleasure in Him. Think of all the earthly things we delight in like significant others, our favorite foods, sports, and much more. Then imagine a thousand times more pleasure and adoration in the Lord. That kind of reverence and joy in the Lord is truly beautiful.

It reminds me of the kind of zeal and love we have for God when we first come to the realization of who He is and all He has done for us. When I rededicated my life to God back in 2015 I said something that I will never forget. I said “God I won’t be happy without You in my life”. Now with more time and life experiences I know that to be true. Because I’ve been down the road of the pursuit of happiness, but in the end God it always led me back to You.

We must remember that this world is temporary. And while it’s fine to find great pleasure in earthly things, we should never make anything or anyone on this earth our everything. It would be foolish to attach all of our worth and identity to anything on this earth because nothing and no one here lasts forever.

I wrote a song before titled “You Are My Everything” but I wasn’t talking about God, I was talking about a person. An ex-boyfriend. The lyrics went like this:

I wrote that song from a broken place before I gave my life back to God. Now I can say with certainty that I will never be able to write a song like that about a person ever again. I can say that confidently because now I’ve had a heart change. Now God is the center of my joy and I write love songs for Him.

So what does it mean to delight in the Lord? It means that above anything or anyone that He is your greatest pleasure. That you make nothing else an idol before Him. And when you truly delight in the Lord then no matter what circumstances the world throws your way your spirit will not be broken and your hope will not be lost because the Lord is the center of your joy.

Delight yourself also in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.

Psalm 37:4 NKJV

Rest In The Lord

Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for Him…Do not fret it only causes harm

-Psalm 37:7,8 NKJV

Have you ever been exhausted from an intense workout? Pushed to your limits you finally get to rest. You sit down, take a cool sip of water, and catch your breath. It feels good to let go of all the tension and the stress. Well that is a small example of what it is like to rest in the Lord.

In order to rest in the Lord you have to trust in the Lord. You have to trust His word above what you see and feel. In times of waiting guard your heart from worry because worry only causes harm. Worry can cause you to lose sleep, become sick, and even make irrational decisions that you wouldn’t make if you were resting in the Lord.

So instead of waiting anxiously, wait patiently. When you wait patiently the stress is not on you, but the burdens are appropriately on our Father in heaven to carry. So if you have a burden take it to the Lord in prayer. Rest in the Lord today.

But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint -Isaiah 40:31

The Presence of God and The Love of God

Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence? -Psalm 139:7 NKJV

Growing up did your parents ever tell you that you better act right because God sees everything? That’s a pretty supernatural idea for anyone to grasp. Yet as followers of Jesus Christ we believe that God is omniscient (knows everything), omnipotent (having unlimited power), and omnipresent (present everywhere at the same time).

Then one day I had this thought that it’s not only His presence that is always there but it’s His love too. God isn’t all in our business just to be nosy. God watches us day and night no matter where we are because of His love for us. He did create us after all, so God is highly invested in everything that concerns us.

To think that He cares that much for us that He never takes His eyes off of us. So when you think about the presence of God think about the love of God too because they go hand in hand. There truly is no greater love.

For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord – Romans 8:38-39 NKJV
