When is the last time you’ve celebrated the growth in you? Do you even recognize how immense that growth is? Recently a one year old reminded me how important it is to celebrate the victories in your life no matter the size.
I have a niece now and she is learning how to walk. Lately we could tell that she had seeds of fear in her most likely due to the few times she has tried to walk and fell in the process. The brave little girl we already knew her to be became very cautious and didn’t want to stray too far from what was safe and comfortable to her. She stayed close to the couch and her walker. She wouldn’t move unless she had a hand or finger to hold on to. It’s like a bird that is ready to fly and the only thing stopping him is himself. The thoughts in his own mind.
Well this Easter Sunday my niece walked on her own! She was leaning on her walker in the middle of the room and suddenly decided she wanted to go to the couch. She looked back for my mom’s hand, but my mom stepped back. Then she saw her walker wouldn’t serve her in where she wanted to go so she let go of that too, and wobbled a little bit before gaining her balance. Next thing we knew she walked straight to the couch and once she got there she clapped and made a joyful noise. She clapped at her own accomplishment before anyone else did. Even as a baby she knew the progress she had made.
Celebrate Your Victories and Growth!
Sometimes in life we need to celebrate our victories and growth too without waiting for the praise and approval of others. Everyone does not know why you have a reason to celebrate. Everyone does not know where you started or what you have been through. Only you know your public and private battles. And especially only you know your private victories before the public ones even come to the surface.
When I think about the growth in myself I think about the goodness of God. Our God is in the growing business. If following Jesus Christ and the Bible doesn’t make you grow and mature then you’re doing something wrong. Growth is inevitable and it is something to celebrate! We are suppose to grow in wisdom, love, kindness, patience, joy, courage, mercy, generosity, understanding and much more.
Don’t be discouraged if growth is not coming as quick as you thought it would. It is better to have that deep kind of spiritual growth that is lasting. Stay faithful and you will become wiser, stronger, and better. I like that word better which means a more excellent and effective type of quality. Fully transformed and renewed. Much like that tree the bible speaks of that is planted by the waters and spreads out its roots by the river, And will not fear when heat comes; But its leaf will be green, And will not be anxious in the year of drought, Nor will cease from yielding fruit (Jeremiah 17:7-8 NKJV).Praise God for the kind of internal growth that goes so deep within us. Praise God for the victories in our lives!
Add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness, to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love. For if these things are yours and abound, you will be neither barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.2 Peter 1:5-8 NKJV
